Vodafone WiFi Calling Not Working? 7 Proven Fixes for UK Users

Published: September 16, 2026

Vodafone WiFi Calling can stop working for several reasons, from a problem with your WiFi connection to a phone setting, network issue, or Vodafone account setting. If you’re unable to make or receive calls over WiFi, the steps below will help you find the cause and get the feature working again.

What Is WiFi Calling?

WiFi Calling lets you make and receive normal phone calls when mobile signal is weak or unavailable. Instead of relying on a mobile tower, your phone uses an available wireless internet connection to handle the call.

Quick Fix

  1. Check your WiFi. Make sure your phone is connected and the internet works. If WiFi itself is not working, see our Fix WiFi not working guide.
  2. Restart your phone. This can refresh WiFi Calling if it has become stuck.
  3. Turn WiFi Calling off and on again. On iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular > Wi-Fi Calling. On Android, look for WiFi Calling under your SIM or mobile network settings.
  4. Turn Airplane Mode on for a few seconds, then off.
  5. Check for software updates. Install any available update.
  6. Try another WiFi network. If you have access to another WiFi network, connect your phone to it and check. This will help you find out whether the issue is with your phone or router.
  7. Check your SIM or eSIM. If you recently changed your SIM, replaced your phone, or switched to an eSIM, check that the SIM is active and working properly. If there is a problem, see the Vodafone SIM help.

1. Check Your Vodafone Account and Network Status First

Is there a network problem in your area?

Mast maintenance, faults, or localised network problems can affect Vodafone’s calling services, so it’s worth checking for a network issue before troubleshooting your phone. Vodafone’s network status checker shows current faults and planned maintenance for your postcode.

If WiFi Calling and normal calling both stop working at the same time, the problem could be with Vodafone’s network rather than your phone.

Is WiFi Calling actually switched on for your account?

WiFi Calling needs to be enabled on your phone and on your Vodafone account. If the WiFi Calling option is completely missing from your phone’s settings, your phone or Vodafone line may not support or have the service enabled. Check the calling options in the My Vodafone app or website to see whether WiFi and 4G Calling is enabled.

If the option is missing or WiFi Calling still does not work after enabling it, contact Vodafone and ask them to check the service on your line.

Where you bought your phone matters

WiFi Calling support can vary depending on your phone model, software, and how the device is configured for the network. An Android phone bought from another UK network or imported from abroad may not show the WiFi Calling option, even if the same model is supported by Vodafone. This can happen because carrier-specific software or regional settings affect feature support.

Check Vodafone’s device guides for your exact handset to confirm whether WiFi Calling is supported.

2. iPhone Fixes

Turning WiFi Calling on correctly

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular > Wi-Fi Calling, then turn on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone. You may be asked to confirm an emergency address, which helps emergency services locate you when a call is made over WiFi Calling.

For more details, see Apple’s official guide on setting up and troubleshooting Wi-Fi Calling.

Network Settings Reset

If the WiFi Calling toggle is missing, greyed out, or has no effect when enabled, resetting your network settings may help. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

This removes saved WiFi passwords, VPN settings, and other network configurations. After the reset, you’ll need to reconnect to your WiFi network and enter its password again.

Try restarting your iPhone and connecting to another WiFi network first, as these steps are quicker and won’t remove your saved network settings.

Carrier settings and iOS updates

Carrier settings updates can improve network compatibility and fix issues affecting features such as WiFi Calling. To check for an update, make sure your Vodafone SIM is active, then go to Settings > General > About. If an update is available, your iPhone will show a prompt.

Also, check for an iOS update by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Installing the latest available update can resolve software issues that prevent WiFi Calling from working correctly.

3. Android Fixes

Android phones come from many manufacturers, so WiFi Calling can have different names and menu paths depending on the brand, model, Android version, and carrier. Below are steps for three Android brands. If you use another Android phone, look for WiFi Calling under your SIM or mobile network settings.

Samsung

On many Samsung Galaxy phones, go to Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi Calling, then turn on the toggle. For model-specific instructions, you can also use Vodafone’s Samsung device guides.

Google Pixel

On Google Pixel phones, go to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > your SIM > Wi-Fi calling, then turn it on. The menu can vary slightly depending on your Android version or carrier.

Xiaomi and other Android brands

On Xiaomi phones running MIUI or HyperOS, WiFi Calling may be under Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks > your SIM > Wi-Fi calling. Depending on the model, it may also appear under a different network or connection menu, or use a name such as VoWiFi.

Broadband and Router Troubleshooting

WiFi Calling uses your WiFi connection, so problems with your router or broadband connection can also affect calls.

  • Restart your router. Wait until your internet connection is back, then restart your phone and try WiFi Calling again.
  • Move closer to the router. If calls connect but the audio is choppy or calls keep dropping, a weak or unstable WiFi connection could be the cause.
  • Check for an internet outage. If your WiFi seems connected but WiFi Calling still won’t work, check whether your broadband provider is reporting an outage.

Other Common Causes

  • SIM or eSIM issues. A loose physical SIM, an inactive eSIM, or a SIM that hasn’t fully activated can prevent WiFi Calling from working. Reseat a physical SIM if needed.
  • Device incompatibility. A phone that supports WiFi Calling on another network may not support the feature on Vodafone. This can be an issue with older, imported, or carrier-specific Android phones. Check Vodafone’s device guides for your exact handset.

How to Test Whether Vodafone WiFi Calling Is Actually Working

The easiest way to confirm WiFi Calling is working is to test it without a mobile signal:

  1. Connect your phone to WiFi.
  2. Turn on Airplane Mode.
  3. Turn WiFi back on while Airplane Mode remains enabled.
  4. Check for the WiFi Calling indicator on your phone.
  5. Make a call to another phone.

If the call connects while Airplane Mode is on, the call is being handled through WiFi Calling rather than the mobile network. If it doesn’t connect, WiFi Calling is not working correctly.
